Pope Benedict XVI, born Joseph Aloisius Ratzinger, passed away on April 2, 2021 at the age of 96. He was elected Pope in 2005, succeeding Pope John Paul II, and served as the leader of the Catholic Church until his resignation in 2013. He was the first Pope to resign in nearly 600 years.

Throughout his papacy, Pope Benedict XVI emphasized traditional Catholic teachings, including a strong emphasis on the importance of faith and the centrality of the sacraments in the life of the Church. He also worked to promote Christian unity and to strengthen the relationship between the Catholic Church and other religions.
